How well your body adapts to and absorbs stresses, especially unusual and unexpected ones, is called resilience. And this concept can be applied to our mindset also, where those stresses are emotional, intellectual or societal.

The higher your resilience, the less likely you are to incur debilitating injuries when something goes wrong, and the better chance you’ll recover well if an accident does happen. Or the more likely you are to be able to handle and manage a stress or conflict with extra capacity.

Luckily, both these types of resilience can be trained and improved. And the best way to do it is actually fun. The process can be summarised into 3 stages

  • Start from where you are and build from there- Its not useful to push too hard and introduce risk of injury. Tissues take time to adapt, let them.

  • Work on transitions- the parts of a movement between different positions are often the weaker places. By getting stronger in those less common positions

  • Remove expectations and introduce explorations- Its not about where you ‘should’ be. Consistency and a playful attitude will build up resilience.

The way this works in practice is by identifying YOUR weak points, based on what your goals are, any recurring injuries or pain. Shoring up those movements with motor control patterning through neuromuscular exercises, so you increase stability and control.

Using progressive exercises to gradually increase your resilience in the necessary fascia and other connective tissues.

Using mindfulness and body awareness techniques to increase your control and build resilience of mind and spirit.

You will develop a set of practices that make sense to you and YOUR main goals, which you find enjoyable, and that you can use moving forward toward your longevity.

This will suit you if you:

  •  Suffer from recurring injuries and persistent aches and pains
  • Getting older and want to prepare your body so you can keep enjoying your activities as you age.
  • Have a hypermobility disorder which is affecting your ability to get the most out of life
