Planning Your Road to Recovery – 3 Rehabilitation Methods from Acubody

Full recovery from injury or periods of poor health involves treatment of more than just the specific part of your body that has been damaged. Treating the body and mind as a whole through complementary therapies and natural treatments is a proven way to supplement conventional medication treatment and restore former vitality.

At Acubody, we offer a number of therapies that can be used alongside any rehabilitation or physiotherapy treatments so that you can achieve greater balance, strength and resilience on your road to recovery. Below are some of our most popular services.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial release is a technique that can be used to improve elasticity in the fascia that has been lost due to either physical or emotional trauma. Reducing the hardening that surrounds fascia and improving general flexibility can offer several benefits to those who have suffered from injury.

As well as treating damaged areas, it can be used to support other parts of the body that may have been indirectly impacted by lack of mobility or overcompensation of your muscles and limbs. For instance, injury in your leg combined with an unbalancing of your body and poor posture can create tightness in your fascia that creates a burden on your system.

To stretch the fascia, one of our therapists will apply force in opposite directions with the hands (or sometimes just the fingers when treating small areas) until the tissue relaxes. It is a very gentle treatment and does not hurt, with many patients even finding it relaxing.

Trigger Point Therapy

The term trigger point refers to certain points in the muscle tissue which contributes to pain in other parts of the body. They are locations that can be identified and treated by a practitioner to result in positive outcomes. These trigger points commonly appear after injury or postural strain and muscle fibres in the body will become compromised by the trigger point.

Trigger points can also develop after repetitive activity, not just high impact trauma. Other types of overloading or overstretching without adequate preparation and warm-up can also lead to trigger points emerging. The job of our practitioners is to identify these areas and help to reduce their impact on your body, giving you back full function over your limbs and increased mobility.

Acupuncture

We believe that acupuncture stimulates the nervous system, improves blood flow, improves hormonal health, decreases pain and much more. Treatment and the resultant impact on the body can be used to promote both physical and emotional well-being for those who have recently suffered from an injury or who have not quite recovered from an old sports related ailment.  If you’ve been looking for multidisciplinary sports therapy in London, get in touch with us at Acubody and we’ll be happy to create a plan for you.
