3 Winter Self-Care Tips to Support Men’s Health

It can be easier for bad habits to settle in when it’s winter. Fatigue, lack of motivation, or lazy eating habits can all have an impact on our well-being.

While it’s natural to adjust your lifestyle as seasons change, it’s important that this change comes with an appropriate amount of self-care too.

In aid of men’s health awareness month, we offer a few tips on how to look after yourself as we embrace winter this year.

Treat Yourself (but Don’t Overindulge)

On a cold winter’s day, there’s nothing better than staying home in your pyjamas, ordering in or binge-watching your favourite series. Occasionally, you should 100% give yourself permission to do this. After all, winter is a great time to conserve energy and relax.

Having said that, be mindful of the impact that too many fast food meals and missed exercise sessions can have on your health and stress levels.

To stay happy and content, keep some structure to the way you spend your free time to maintain well-being for longer.

Talk About Your Feelings

While some people’s social calendars seem to explode over winter, with plans for family catch-ups and events during the holidays, some people spend an increasing amount of time alone (perhaps because of your network of friends and colleagues spending more time with their immediate family).

If this is you, it’s nothing to be ashamed about, but make sure you look for ways to talk to people about how you feel or simply find more ways to spend time with others.

Consider looking for people who are in a similar position to you (there are so many!!) and arrange activities. Or, consider talking to a therapist if there is something you feel you really need to work through or get out of your system.

Keeping to yourself for months on end during the coldest and darkest period of the year is never a good thing.

Address Health Issues and Injuries

Now isn’t a time to simply forget about your niggles, pains, and injuries. If anything, addressing them while you are spending less time outdoors or exercising is perfect. For instance, back pain, joint pain and even anxiety can get much worse in winter and doing something about it rather than leaving things to fester is certainly the better approach.

If you’re looking for a sports massage in London to help with various health issues or injuries, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We also offer a range of bodywork treatments and can help our clients build a holistic health and fitness plan for winter.

Self-care is much more likely to happen if you create a strategy and plan for when and what you will do. So, if you need to book some time with your loved ones, organise something that makes you happy, or book a London sports massage treatment, we recommend you go for it. If you don’t look after yourself, who will?
