Back Care Awareness Week Runs From October 4th to 8th

At Acubody, we are taking great interest in Back Care Awareness Week running from Monday October 4th to October 8th. This year it is focusing on working from home, studying at home, and spending more time at home, because many people have been doing one or more of those things as a result of the pandemic.

It has not forgotten those who are still working from offices, factories, schools, colleges, universities, and hospitals too. Back Care Awareness Week 2021 has something for everyone. There are free downloadable booklets and videos to help make everyone more aware of issues which can cause back pain and ways in which preventable back injury can be avoided. These can be downloaded here: https://backcare.org.uk/i-have-back-or-neck-pain/back-care-awareness-week-2021/.

BackCare is a national charity and has been running for more than 50 years. As they say: “We have your backs covered”.

We believe that it is a very worthy cause at Acubody, because at our clinic in London we see our fair share of people who are suffering from back pain among other things. Acupuncture is aimed at treating the root of a condition and not just the symptoms, by restoring the correct function of the body at the deepest levels. Among other things, we use acupuncture for back pain and acupuncture for knee pain in London.

Not only do we provide patients with a course of acupuncture for back pain in London, but we also offer a variety of massage techniques which can assist with the treatment of chronic back pain such as myofascial release, deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, Swedish massage, and more. These exercises and stretches can all help with the treatment of back pain, and we also provide our patients with postural advice to empower them and provide them with all the necessary tools to help them manage their back pain themselves.

Osteoarthritis is one of the most common causes of chronic knee pain, causing pain, inflammation and stiffness, and making it difficult to flex and extend the knees. This can make walking difficult, and climbing up and down stairs is challenging.

A Branch Of Traditional Chinese Medicine

Acupuncture is a branch of traditional Chinese medicine and has a history dating back thousands of years. Hair-fine needles are inserted into the body at appropriate points in order to promote anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects.

No two patients are exactly the same, and while some will find that this treatment alone will relieve knee pain and back pain, others need a more involved technique, such as electro-acupuncture (technically called percutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, or PENS). Patients with knee pain respond very well to electro-acupuncture, and a few sessions can make a big difference. If the arthritis is more advanced, then ongoing treatments may be needed.

Studies have shown that in addition to producing an anti-inflammatory effect, acupuncture can release endogenous opioid endorphins which are the body’s natural pain-relieving chemicals.

If you are suffering from back pain or knee pain, make an appointment to see us at Acubody. We can make a detailed assessment of your condition in order to create a treatment plan for you.
