How Acupuncture Can Help Manage Symptoms of Chronic Fatigue

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), also called myalgic encephalomyelitis, is a diagnosis given to those who suffer from extreme fatigue over a long period. The causes of this condition aren’t known. However, scientists speculate that viral or bacterial infection, immune system issues, hormonal imbalance, and genes may be linked to developing CFS.

While many people suffer a range of symptoms brought on by this condition, there are few treatments available. For instance, the NHS commonly recommends behaviour adjustment and painkillers. While these treatments may help some, the underlying condition can have devastating effects on the lives of sufferers. Chinese acupuncture takes a different approach to this condition. From the point of view of Chinese medicine, treatments for CFS should target the whole body.

Here, we’ll look at the ins and outs of this Chinese medicine and where you can find treatment in London.

Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture for fatigue

Chinese acupuncture has its origins in ancient Chinese medical literature. It first appeared as a diagnostic and treatment tool around 100BC. Modern Chinese medicine uses acupuncture as one tool in a holistic process to guide the body into a state of balance.

Recent studies have indicated a robust scientific basis for using acupuncture to treat fatigue and CFS. Researchers suggest that the effectiveness of acupuncture comes from targeting the spinal ganglion. This is one of the central points in the nervous system responsible for sending sensory signals from our limbs to the nervous system. It is thought that stimulating this area can reduce the release of stress hormones such as cortisol and help to regulate immune system functions.

Rather than targeting the symptoms by separating them into individual categories, the acupuncture approach aims to support overall bodily function. This can, in turn, relieve symptoms.

Where Can I Find Treatment?

If you suffer from CFS or fatigue, you may not have considered Chinese medicine as a viable treatment. However, as the wealth of literature on the efficacy of acupuncture in treating various ailments continues to grow, many people are reconsidering their options.

At Acubody, we have a dedicated team of traditional and modern treatment specialists who are not only experienced but also are well qualified to help patients that conventional medicine has failed. We offer a holistic and personalised path to treatment suited to each patient’s needs.
