How to Maximize the Impact of Acupuncture Therapy

How to Maximize the Impact of Acupuncture Therapy

Making the decision to use acupuncture as a treatment method is one thing, but to make the most of it there are several things you can also do. We explore what some of these are below.

Eat Something Healthy Before Your Session

Having some food in your stomach can help you feel settled and focused during acupuncture. You’re likely to feel less distracted and irritable during a situation that is completely new to you.

Some practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture also believe that eating food at the right time will give you more energy to draw on, so that the Qi can be channeled through the body more effectively. Skipping a meal or not eating well can diminish your ability to improve your flow of Qi.

Avoid Alcohol and Caffeine

Being over-stimulated could reduce the effectiveness of your session. When we are trying to achieve balance and relaxation through different parts of the body, it’s best that your body is calm and relaxed – undisrupted by stimulants. Caffeine may also limit the body’s ability to produce key neurotransmitters that are released during the acupuncture process to heal your body.

Arrive Early and Commit to the Process

We’re sympathetic to anyone with a busy schedule and who is trying to squeeze in an acupuncture session between activities that might seem more important. However, we would say that getting the most out of this treatment requires you to attend each session in full and with commitment.

If it’s possible, try to get to your appointments slightly earlier so you can give your body a chance to settle and focus on what’s happening. This can help the process to work better, releasing chemicals in your body and contributing to your health and wellbeing.

Remove Distractions

If possible, come to the session alone and leave any distractions outside. Turning off your phone can help, as well as preparing yourself mentally to take a break from the million different things going on in your life. Taking the time to focus on yourself and letting the acupuncture have a chance to work while you’re calm and relaxed can improve its benefits.

Approaching things like this can also offer you a brief window in your day to let the pressure off and actively focus on healing yourself.

Don’t Do Too Much After Treatments

Again, this is not always possible, but if you can, try not to take on too much after the treatment. Strenuous mental or physical tasks can take away from how acupuncture has helped your body support energy flow and healing in certain parts of your body.

Talk to Us About Your Broader Goals

The best acupuncturists in London should also be able to offer you some broader lifestyle advice whenever needed.  Often the problems that we face are tied into many different aspects of our health and lifestyle. We might be able to offer you some guidance on things like nutrition, exercise and relaxation, as well as suggest complementary treatments from Acubody that can support your journey to better health.
